Kyle woke up to his alarm blaring.  He quickly rolled over to hit the button to turn it off.  He knew that if he didn't set it he wouldn't be able to get out of bed on his own, but boy did he hate his alarm.  Man why does sleeping always feel so good?  Sometimes his morning coordination wasn't the best, but he managed to turn it off in one try.

Stretching, and slowly waking up he tried to gather his thoughts about what to do today.  First things first. BREAKFAST! A mighty yawn, and a few sleepy blinks later he was set to head downstairs an make food. Most important meal of the day. He hummed to himself in his head.

He could at least look forward to breakfast in the morning.  His favorite meal of the day.  Who could hate it? You can have food that would be considered dessert in the morning.  Cinnamon rolls, toaster pastries, pancakes covered in gooey sugary syrup.  Pancakes, perfect! He had some left over batter in the fridge from the other day.  Cons to living by yourself, most recipes are for more than  one person.  Pros, is constant left overs for quick meals.

He threw the bed sheet aside and planted his feet on the floor.  Man I got myself so excited for breakfast I don't want to take the time to get dressed right now.  Screw it.  Another pro about living alone, you can walk around in your PJ's or half naked, and now one will care.

He got up, and made his way to the kitchen.  Took out the left over batter, and went to grab a pan to cook it in. He looked to the sink nearby, and Another con to living alone, it's too easy to leave dishes for anther day since the sink doesn’t fill up so quickly. He quickly rinsed off the pan, and put it on the stove to heat up. Melted a bit of butter, and poured the batter.  In no time he had his precious pancakes all stacked up, and ready.

After breakfast he went back to his room, and changed.  In doing so he wondered what he should do today.  He was a bit into model building, and drawing, but didn't really feel like that today.  Looking out the window he couldn't ignore how beautiful it was outside.  It would be a shame not to go outside today.  He settled on a simple walk to get the juices flowing, and to enjoy the outdoors while it was still summer.

Leaving the house with no particular path in mind was a bit amusing.  Right here, left here. Just walking for the sake of walking.  He was also a bit new to the area so he didn't know the lay out by heart yet.  He was confident in finding his way back home, but just didn't know much about the town yet.  He moved in a few months ago after his parents helped him buy his house.  A bit more rural than where he grew up since he didn't like the crowds of the city very much.  Yeah shops were open later, but the traffic, and higher cost of goods wasn't appealing.  Although honestly he didn't have to worry about finances that much.  His parents would give him practically anything he wanted.  Sadly they weren't too involved with his life otherwise so he had no qualms about moving out here at the age of 23.

His older brother had moved out at a similar age as well so his parents weren't hesitant about him moving away.  Actually his older brother had been away at college before that, and couldn't handle being back home.  Guess it was too difficult adjusting to moving back home once you've had the freedom of living far away from your parents.  They still talk once in a while, but as time goes by it seems that they just drift apart more and more.  Actually, he hasn't really had any friends that stuck around.  It seems that his high school friends didn't really follow him to college, and now that he is out of college and moved out no one really keeps in touch.  Once in a while he receives a letter or a phone call wishing him a happy birthday, but he never really had any close friends.  He never really thought of it as a bad thing.  He kinda grew up in an environment where everyone just kept to themselves so he was used to doing the same.

He knew his way to the local downtown area that offered a grocery story, and some shops that basically provided him with everything he needed.  He had ended up walking right past that on his walk.  He stopped in one of the stands, and bought a hot dog for lunch.  He sat down on a bench, and finished it while doing some people watching.

Still not wanting to head back yet he wondered off to the far part of town.  He rarely went over there since there was never really a need to.  On the way he found signs for a local forest preserve with a walking path. Sounds like fun.  If I end up liking it I can go there again to watch the leaves change in the fall.

After some walking he found his way to the walking path.  It had taken him not to far from his house.  Maybe a good 20 minute walk or so.  It was peacefully quiet with only the light chirping of birds, and rustling of the leaves.  He had been soaking up as much of the scenery as he could.  It was absolutely great being out.  He veered a bit from the path and started to just walk through the forest.  Not wanting to go too far he made sure the path was still visible at least in the distance.

Out of the corner of his eye he spotted something.  Not able to make it out he took a second look.  It appeared to be like some clear material was placed between two trees.  It almost looked like the wavy air above an open grill.  He could see clearly though it, but it was just ever so slightly distorted.

Curiosity took over, and he went out to touch it. It doesn't really feel like anything.  Just a bit like a pocket of cooler air. His fingers passed effortlessly though it, as well as his whole hand. This is incredible my hand seems to go in, and become invisible. It seemed to pull his hand in more.  He tried to struggle, but eventually it pulled him completely through.

The force that pulled him in caused him to loose his footing a little bit as he stepped through the other side.  He felt some twig snap under his feet.  While steadying his feet his eyes took a minute to adjust to the brightness.  He was no longer under the shade of the trees.  Instead he could an unobstructed sky.  Looking down it looked like he had stepped into a large-ish model train town.  The trees not even reaching his knees.  He knelt down to get a better look.

His eyes grew wide.  These are real trees.  How can that be? Looking behind him he saw the “twig” he broke. OMG, what is going on?  I don't know any flowers that could resemble trees at this size.  Maybe some bonsai trees, but still there are so many.  Noticing that the sea of trees abruptly ended at a field not to far away he carefully stepped over to it.

Okay at least here I shouldn't have to worry about breaking anything here...or not? He could make out what looked like a doll laying on a blanket.  He was back on his knees taking a closer look.  It had auburn hair that tousled lightly in the wind.  He couldn't make out the face because there was a tiny book covering it.  He glanced over the minuscule features of this figurine.  The hands looked perfect, the clothing even looked real.

Again his curiosity took over.  His passion for working on models at home, he just had to get a better look at it.  Gently he slid his fingers under the torso, and legs of the figure.  Gradually picking it up made the head tilt back a bit causing the book fall off.  Who would put so much detail work into a face only to cover it up?  Whoever worked on this did a great job, and she's absolutely beautiful to boot.

Still kneeling he brought it closer to his face to get a better look at it.  The tiny ears, almost too small to make out the details.  The hair that hung freely over his hand moving with the gentle breeze was indeed made of individual strands that almost glowed red as the sunlight hit it.  It's fair skin that had light tones of pink making it seem all the more real.

He took his free hand, and gently put his index finger under one of the tiny hands.  The hand seemed to cup slightly conforming to the roundness of his finger. They even made fingernails on her.  Wow, I don't think my hands are even steady enough for that sort of detail work.

He gently brushed his thumb over the delicate looking hand. It's soft?

The figure seemed to shift a bit in his flat hand.  Suddenly the figures eyes opened up, and he could make out the pupils dilating. Oh crap!  The little head frantically shifted left to right surveying the situation.  He could feel it tremble, and the breathing suddenly noticeable become quick and shallow.  Her mouth started to open, but he couldn't hear anything.  Suddenly she went limp, and passed out.

Have to say I had so many ideas in my head that I wanted to get this done right away. I love doing it in one sitting :)

All the italic text is just thought. If you'd me to make it more clear let me know.

***Updated this a bit 9/26/13***

Fixed awkward switch from 3rd to 1st person, and added a bit more detail toward the end of the chapter where he is looking at the "figurine".

-Also I apologize in advance if I do any awkward misspelling. I have already caught myself almost misspelling "gentle" as"genital" (face-palm) >.<
